Unlocking Success: Mastering the Art of Leadership and Teamwork in Grants Management

Presented by Vicky Cooper, Lee County Utilities

Learn how a mid-size utility went from no grants or grant process to leading major grant efforts and setting the framework for other departments. The fiscal manager for Lee County Utilities will share strategies used to put together a collaborative and efficient process to develop a team-oriented grants management.

In this session, participants will learn how to set up a successful grants team and grants management process. Although the session will focus on the following objectives, all helpful tips and strategies will also be shared as they relate to the topic.

Learning objectives:

  • Prioritizing educating yourself and others. No one in the grants field comes to it knowing everything about grants. Most of it is learned by experience, but much of the knowledge is acquired by learning, reading and going down those “rabbit holes” and sharing the information with others. Included will be strategies and tips and tricks of how to find info, how to digest it and best ways to share it.

  • Keeping a tidy house. From beginning to end, grants come with a lot of information and deliverables, if awarded the funding. A good grants management team will need an organizational system in place for tracking info and deliverables. (We’re not just talking fancy innovative technologies!)

  • Fostering and embracing collaboration and success. Getting a grant and implementing a grant-funded opportunity is never a one-person show. So how do we do this as a team or even form a team to get it done? Learn how this utility organization got to be the GT (Grants Team) of Lee County.
